Name: Heather
Company: Account Services
Caller ID: It said: “UNAVAILABLE”
Caller ID Phone #: 562-901-0214

Purpose: Last chance to lower
interest rates on credit card.
=============================================

I pressed “1” to get a LIVE Representative.

Transfrerred to: LIVE Representative ( I didn’t get name of 1st Representative (it was a woman) )

Substance of LIVE conversation:

I asked her for the name of the company she represented.

She answered with “Credit Card Services”.

She said that they were in business to help people who were paying interest over 10 on their credit cards lower their rates.

I told her I had a Bank of America VISA card and asked her if they could lower rates for VISA cards or just MasterCard accounts.

She said they could lower VISA card rates.

I asked her if I would have to roll my balances over to a new card or if I would continue to have a Bank of America VISA card.

She said that it would continue to be a Bank of America VISA, and that I would continue to make payments using the same Bank of America statements, but that the rates would just be lower “for life”.

I gave her a “fictitious” 12-digit credit card number, starting with the common first four digits for a Bank of America account (4264), and a random expiration date of (02/16), and a Home Address ZIP code (not mine, but a nearby city).

I did this to see how much personal information she would try to obtain.
(e.g. PHISHing, or identity theft)

She tried to verify the card number,

( I’m not sure what database or credit service they were trying to verify it against)

( OR maybe they were trying to immediately make a fraudulent charge using the account information, to see if it would go through )

Of course, it didn’t work.

She came back on the line and tried to verify the account number and expiration date with me, and apparently tried it again and, of course, failed again.

Then a “supervisor” came on the line.
He identified himself as “Roony”

I asked him to verify the identity of the company they represented and he said “Credit Card Services”.

I again asked about how they were able to lower rates on behalf of Bank of America, and asked if they “negotiated” my rate directly with Bank of America.

Roony gave a somewhat non-detailed response with respect to HOW they would get the specific Bank that issued the card to lower the rates, then essentially ended his deion of the services they offered by reiterating that Credit Card Services was there to help people who were either closing their accounts or transferring balances to new accounts . . . by arranging for card holders to stay with the same Credit Card account, but, after 2-3 months, continue making payments to the same Bank, using the same statements, but at a lower interest rate for life.

Roony then took my (fictitious) account number and expiration information, and tried to verify my account.

He zeroed in on the “2nd four digits of the account” number, and said that specifically “those four digits,” were wrong. His voice and demeanor was quite forceful and “certain” as he conveyed this information to me.

I knew that the 1st four digits of all Bank of America VISA accounts were “4264”, but apparently there is also a specific range for the 2nd four numbers. And I guess my fictitious 2nd four numbers were not in that range.

Specifically, the 2nd digit of the “2nd group of 4 numbers” I had given him was a “7” and Roony said, very specifically, that the “7” was incorrect.

I tried one last time to play along. I pretended that I had transposed the “7” with the next number and reversed the order of the 2nd and 3rd numbers of the 2nd 4-digit cluster in the fictitious account number.

Of course that didn’t work either.

He knew immediately that that sequence was invalid, and I think he was becoming aware that I was not being honest with him. I could sense annoyance in his voice.

At that point, I figured the gig was up, so I admitted to him that I was on the No-Call List, and that they continued to call me, even though I several times had pressed “2” in response to their recorded prompt to “press ‘2’ if you would no longer like to receive calls,” . . . so . . . I had played along with them to see how far their inquiries would go because I had already reported them to the FCC once, and that I wanted more information for another FCC report I would make after this call.

Roony responded with “That is why I will continue to call you everyday.”

The line went silent.
I reiterated that I was going to report this information to the FCC.
There was no response.
I assumed they had hung up, and I hung up the phone."
